Marcus Notaro, Winemaker, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars
Marcus Notaro was named Winemaker at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in May 2013, bringing with him close to two decades of expertise and passion for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. Since 2003, Marcus has been honing a style of Cabernet Sauvignon that unites old world and new world traditions and innovations, similar to the philosophy long espoused by Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. It is his understanding of this signature winemaking style -- one of elegance and balance, ripeness and restraint -- as well as his ability to express both the terroir of the vineyard and the true varietal character of the grape, that make him ideally suited for continuing the winemaking legacy at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars.
Priyanka French, Winemaker, Signorello
Born and brought up in Mumbai, India and daughter to two academic physicists, Priyanka was an unlikely candidate to venture in the wine industry. Her undergraduate study in Food Technology and Engineering gave her a sneak peak into the world of wine and her passion for microbiology fermented her future aspirations towards winemaking. She’s the first Indian to have received the Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology at the University of California – Davis. She also holds a diploma in Enology from the University of Dijon. She is currently the Winemaker at Signorello Estate in Napa, where she focuses on premium, estate-grown wines using precision viticulture and restrained winemaking to showcase the fruit expression of the unique site.
Michael Scholz, Winemaker St. Supery
Michael Scholz is a sixth-generation winemaker from Australia’s famed Barossa Valley. His storied career began on his family's estate, the Willows Vineyard, in the 1980s. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Oenology in 1985 at Roseworthy, Australia's first agricultural college. He has spent over a decade at St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery challenging himself year after year to express the full potential of the vineyards’ worth of exquisite estate fruit. Scholz firmly believes that great wine begins in the vineyard, so when he first arrived at St. Supéry in 1996, he worked closely with the vineyard manager on an extensive replanting project to unite blocks with their ideal varietals, focusing on the classics of Bordeaux.
